An exciting opportunity is available for a licensed pharmacist ready to take on the critical role of Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) at a newly established specialty pharmacy. This onsite, direct-hire position requires relocating to Lufkin, TX, with candidates from Houston, Tyler, or surrounding areas encouraged to apply. The pharmacy will focus on delivering quality specialty care in partnership with clinic clients, playing a vital role in patient outcomes and pharmacy operations.

Location: Lufkin, TX (Relocation required from Houston, Tyler, or nearby)

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday (Hours to be determined)
  • Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the designated PIC, ensuring full compliance with state and federal pharmacy laws, Board of Pharmacy regulations, DEA requirements, and accreditation standards
  • Manage the build-out and opening of the specialty pharmacy, including licensing, insurance contract onboarding, and regulatory inspections
  • Oversee daily pharmacy operations to guarantee accurate dispensing and adherence to clinical protocols
  • Implement and enforce policies for prescription processing, drug storage, and security
  • Supervise and train pharmacy staff while maintaining quality standards and continuing education compliance
  • Collaborate with providers and clinic teams to optimize specialty medication access, formularies, and patient care coordination
  • Lead investigations and resolutions of medication incidents, maintaining thorough documentation
  • Handle inventory management with focus on procurement and temperature-sensitive medications
  • Participate in strategic planning for pharmacy growth and service expansion
  • Act as a clinical expert for patient counseling, prior authorizations, and therapeutic substitutions
  • Desired Experience and Qualifications:

  • Prior PIC or pharmacy manager experience in an outpatient/retail specialty pharmacy setting is essential; inpatient experience not considered
  • Licensed pharmacist with an active, unrestricted Texas license eligible for PIC designation
  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or equivalent advanced degree required
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, especially for collaboration with providers and preparation of appeals
  • Experience with pharmacy software systems (e.g., QS1, PioneerRx) is preferred; familiarity with EMR and specialty pharmacy systems is a plus
  • Ability to work independently in a start-up environment and build workflows from the ground up
  • Detail-oriented with a passion for enhancing the patient pharmacy experience and ensuring regulatory compliance
  • Collaborative mindset and excellent interpersonal skills to engage with multidisciplinary care teams
