Facility Overview
This is a rural Iowa community hospital with a pharmacy team consisting of 3 pharmacists and 4 pharmacy technicians. The Interim Director will serve as a working director, meaning hands-on involvement in daily pharmacy operations alongside administrative and leadership responsibilities. Sterile compounding is part of this role; the facility performs both USP 797 and USP 800 compounding.
Responsibilities
-Serve as Interim Working Director of Pharmacy and Pharmacist in Charge
-Stabilize pharmacy department operations and provide consistent day-to-day leadership
-Supervise and support 3 pharmacists and 4 pharmacy technicians
-Verify and process medication orders using Meditech
-Manage Omnicell automated dispensing systems throughout the facility
-Perform or oversee sterile compounding in compliance with USP 797 and 800 standards
-Attend and lead departmental and interdisciplinary meetings
-Manage pharmacy financial performance and budget oversight
-Assist with pharmacy staff recruitment efforts as needed
-Provide limited on-call coverage as needed
Experience
-Inpatient hospital pharmacy experience required
-Pharmacy director or management experience required
-Sterile compounding experience — USP 797 and 800 required
-Meditech experience preferred
-Omnicell experience preferred
-Rural or community hospital experience a strong plus
Skills
-Strong pharmacy leadership and team management skills
-Comfortable as a working director with hands-on daily pharmacy involvement
-Effective communicator with pharmacy staff, physicians, nurses, and hospital administration
-Organized and detail-oriented with strong financial and operational management skills
-Comfortable in a rural community hospital environment
Qualifications
-Active Iowa Pharmacist License required
-Willingness to serve as Pharmacist in Charge required
