A specialty retail pharmacy in Pittsburgh, PA is seeking an experienced Pharmacy Technician for a contract-to-hire opportunity. This role supports complex patient care, requiring someone with excellent communication skills and patience to engage effectively with patients managing multiple chronic conditions. Candidates should be ready to start as soon as possible and are expected to contribute to a collaborative pharmacy environment focused on a medically complicated patient population.

Location: Pittsburgh, PA
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM (no weekends) with a lunch break from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM
Contract Duration: 13 weeks, with potential to convert to full-time based on performance

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in dispensing medications accurately for patients often taking 8–15 medications daily
  • Provide compassionate patient counseling, especially to those with chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and multiple sclerosis
  • Utilize Pioneer Rx software to manage prescriptions (training available if needed)
  • Support a predominantly Medicare/Medicaid and low-income patient base with varying literacy levels
  • Ensure compliance with pharmacy regulations and maintain proper documentation
  • Collaborate with pharmacists and healthcare professionals to optimize patient care
  • Desired Experience and Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in retail or specialty pharmacy settings highly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of the top 200–400 retail medications and chronic disease states
  • Exceptional verbal communication skills, particularly in working with complex and vulnerable patient populations
  • Registration with the Pennsylvania Board of Pharmacy highly preferred
  • National certification (PTCB) is an advantage but not required
  • Demonstrated ability to work patiently and compassionately with low literacy and special needs patients
  • This is an immediate need to replace a current underperforming candidate, so prompt availability and reliability are critical.
