Support pharmaceutical services in a hospital pharmacy unit with a contract opportunity based in Lihue, HI. This position involves assisting pharmacists in preparing and dispensing medication with strict adherence to safety and regulatory standards. The role requires working days and weekends, including holidays, ensuring continuity of care for patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist pharmacists by preparing physician orders, including unit-dosed oral medications, topical medications, and IV solutions.
  • Prepare sterile intravenous, epidural, or intrathecal solutions following established sterile compounding protocols.
  • Refer all completed drug orders to pharmacists for final checking before dispensing.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and well-stocked pharmacy environment.
  • Pre-pack medications as unit dosed items and remove outdated stock from shelves and automated dispensing machines.
  • Perform daily stocking of pharmacy shelves and maintain emergency medication supplies and crash carts.
  • Deliver medications to hospital floors or authorized personnel.
  • Adhere to infection control policies and use proper PPE handling hazardous materials.
  • Complete competency assessments and maintain confidentiality of patient and employee information.
  • Assist nursing staff with automated dispensing machine troubleshooting and perform special projects as assigned.
  • Qualifications and Experience:

  • Valid registration as a pharmacy technician issued by the Board of Pharmacy, State of Hawaii.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience working in a pharmacy setting such as hospitals, community pharmacies, or other medical institutions.
  • Knowledge of sterile compounding standards and drug supply chain security practices.
  • Ability to work efficiently under supervision while maintaining attention to detail.
