We are looking for an experienced and passionate Director of Pharmacy/Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) to lead the pharmacy operations at a Critical Access Hospital in Bunkie, LA. About the Hospital:

  • Hospital Type: Critical Access Hospital
  • Staffed Beds: 25
  • Average Daily Census: 2-3 patients, with a maximum of 5
  • Pharmacy Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
  • On-Call: Required for emergency coverage

    Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the Director of Pharmacy and Pharmacist in Charge (PIC), overseeing all pharmacy operations and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Manage daily pharmacy activities, including medication preparation, dispensing, and patient counseling, ensuring optimal medication management and patient safety.
  • Lead and supervise a small pharmacy team consisting of 1 pharmacist and 1 pharmacy technician. Responsible for staffing, training, and professional development of team members.
  • Maintain inventory control, ensuring medications and supplies are stocked in accordance with hospital needs and regulatory guidelines.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards, including the implementation of safety protocols, quality improvement initiatives, and risk management strategies.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for pharmacy services to enhance operational efficiency, improve patient care, and ensure safe medication use.
  • Provide direct clinical support for inpatient care, including medication order verification, clinical consultations, and involvement in multidisciplinary team rounds.
  • Oversee medication storage, preparation, and dispensing procedures in compliance with hospital protocols and pharmacy best practices.
  • On-call availability as needed for emergency and after-hours consultations.

    Additional Opportunities:

  • Potential for Remote Pharmacy Services to begin soon, with the possibility of providing night and weekend order entry coverage to further support the hospital's pharmacy needs outside regular operating hours.

    Candidate Qualifications:

  • Pharmacy License: Active and in good standing in the state of Louisiana (or eligible to obtain licensure).
  • Experience: Proven experience as a Pharmacy Manager, Director of Pharmacy, or PIC, preferably in a hospital or critical access setting.
  • Skills: Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to supervise and motivate a small pharmacy team. In-depth knowledge of medication therapy management, pharmacy regulations, and clinical pharmacy practices.
  • Certification: Pharmacist in Charge certification preferred.
  • Other: Ability to work independently, be highly organized, and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
